Eyebrow Transplant

The eyes are the focal point of the face, and are framed by the eyebrows. Eyebrows gives the expression of a look and –according to their shape- may transmit different moods: happiness, sadness, anger, seduction.

The eyes lose their expression and life when the eyebrows are thin or when they have been partially or totally lost. When people lose their eyebrows, they look for a way to hide this defect. They frequently turn to eyebrow pencils, but they need to watch and be cautious all the time so they do not stain their face due to water or sweat, or other people after hugging or kissing them. Things like entering a swimming pool are impossible, and the first thing they need to do in the morning is making themselves up. They become slaves to the pencil.

Other people turn to more extreme and definitive measures such as tattoos. These tattoos, completely unnatural, give a strange and crude expression to the look. Frequently tattoos are wrongly positioned, worsening the panorama.

The definitive solution for those people who have lost their eyebrows partially or totally is reconstruction by using follicular units. This procedure has been successfully performed for years, offering natural results and becoming the best option for people that want to improve the appearance of their eyebrows, or recover them when they have lost them.

This is a completely personalized, effective, and painless procedure that only requires local anesthesia. It does not involve postoperative disability. Results, completely natural, will be visible after the third month and will last for lifetime.

Quality of life, self-esteem, and self-confidence of the people that have undergone this treatment has improved radically. The physical change is minimal compared to the inner change.

This procedure can also be applied to eyelash, beard, mustache, and sideburn reconstruction, as well as any other hairy area. The eyebrow reconstruction procedure by follicular units is a simple and advanced method which last from 2 to 4 hours.

Preparing the donor zone

The area is anesthetized and a strip of scalp of about 3 to 5 cm long and 1 cm wide is taken out, then, stitches are placed to close the defect . The strip taken is then dissected using a microscope in order to ge the grafts for the eyebrows.

Different from hair transplant, eyebrow transplants require micro-grafts containing only one strand of hair.

In the eyebrows, only one hair comes out of each pore. This is different from the scalp, where hair also grows in groups of 2, 3, and 4 of hair in each pore.

The orifices must have the exact angle and  direction in order to achieve truly natural results.

Preparing the recipient zone

As the grafts are being obtained, the recipient areas in the eyebrows are marked. This area is anesthetized and very small orifices are opened with extra thin needles.

It takes around 200 to 400 follicular units to reconstruct one eyebrow. The orifices must have the exact angle and the right direction in order to achieve truly natural results.

Once the orifices are opened, the strands of hair are placed using the implanter, one by one in every orifice. The needle used with the implanter has a diameter of 0,65 mm. This allows recreating the recipient zone with an original density, whether it is the head, the body, or the tail of the eyebrows. This procedure is painless and does not involve any temporary physical or visual disabilities.

Follow-up care and results

There might be a small, temporary eyelid swelling the day after the surgery, and some scabs will appear on the micro-grafts, which will disappear around 5 to 7 days later. Hair normally falls within the first month after the surgery, but the hair follicle remains under the skin. The follicles start to grow after the third month and results will be visible after 5 to 8 months.

Since hair is taken from the scalp it will grow more than normal eyebrows do. This is why it will be necessary to cut them more often. It is also important to remark that it is impossible to predict which grafts are genetically programmed to become gray, so some eyebrows have a probability to become gray in the future.
